This was a Big move for me!! I have never lived outside the DC-MD-VA Metropolitan Area. My life, our friends, my family, our schools, my job, our church, my business... everything I have ever known was a deeply rooted sense of being within the rapidly growing and changing Commonwealth of Virginia... Northern Virginia... Fairfax County. I have made the decision to leave everything behind for unfulfilling hope and faith that I can independently have a new life with my son, boyfriend and his boys. A family life that I never had; siblings and two parents. I have never been this far south and had awful images in my head of what Naples might be like. Knowing that it was very differnt. Southern. Not as diverse or young. Looking forward to a home on the beach was a bit exciting although I am not a beach and sand enthusiast. I can appreciate a beautiful view and perfect sunsets.
It took some work to get everyone up-rooted. I never realized how much work you really put into your life until you have dis-assemble it. I had to get medical records, train my replacement at work, donate my car, pack our home, cleaning out storage unit, post and sell furniture, school paperwork, pulling my son out of school early, making sure we will still get his last report card and yearbook, change of address for everything... I think the biggest project was trying to do it all alone while my boyfriend was already in Florida doing training and I was home without a transportation.
We were able to hire movers to come pack up the uhaul truck since we had some relocation funds. He had gotten a 17ft uhaul and it wasn't even big enough! Good thing we had the movers beacuse they did an amazing job packing the trunk like puzzle pieces.
